The Weeks Gallery presents Arno Rafael Minkkinen, one of the world's most unique and celebrated artists. His self-portraits and collaborative photographs were taken across the nation and around the world. These classically elegant and provocative images are grounded in his Finnish heritage.
Minkkinen was born in Helsinki in 1945 and raised in Brooklyn, New york. He received his B.S. degree from Wagner College, and an M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design, where he studied with Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind (two of modern photography's most significant artists and teachers). Knighted in his Finnish homeland, Minkkinen is professor of art at the University of Massachusettsat Lowell.
This project was supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
