Opening Reception for Foundation Drawing
Melissa Cooke | Hollis Hammonds | Joan Linder

Reception with hors d’oeuvres, wine and other refreshments. At 6:30 pm. Joan Linder, chair of the art department at UB, will introduce her work in the gallery.

About the artist:
Linder uses drawing as a way of looking more closely at the everyday world. She uses the slow and deliberate act of drawing as a way of taking time to think about the day-to-day pressures of life. In one series, she renders the changing positions of the dirty dishes in her kitchen sink as they pile up over the course of the day. In another, she draws over 80 trompe l’oeil facsimiles of flyers, bills, paycheck stubs, cash register receipts, and torn open envelopes that piled up on her desk. Linder is chair of the University of Buffalo department of art. Her work has been shown throughout the United States and in Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Japan, and South Korea. Her solo exhibition Project Sunshine, which debuted new work on the topic of toxic waste was shown last summer at the Albright-Knox Museum in Buffalo, New York.
